Parvati and Shiva Godhead as Beneficent Union. Here Parvati, the beneficent Shakti, stands in a relaxed pose united with Shiva, who holds his trident and drum, the symbols of creation. In this conjunction we see Godhead as fertility and order. Parvati represents at one and the same time both the penultimate creative energy of the god as well as a benevolent intercessor conjoined with godhead on behalf of any devoted supplicant. Parvati's fiercer nature is subsumed in her identities of Durga-devi and Kali, but here that nature is restrained and balance prevails. This is an image of Divine Harmony
