Isis Winged Isis was a Protectress, an aspect of her Mother Goddess function, and her winged image symbolizes this enfoldment. Ra, the life-giving solar deity, was usually shown as a winged disc, but here this power too is subsumed in Isis. Note that her crown is the stylized sundisc/lunar crescent. Hymns praised the goddess as she who made light with her feathers and wind with her wings. Also available: |
