Chacmool This oldest Mayan fertility god was a fourfold deity dwelling at the cardinal points who became one to dispense crop-quenching rain from his sprinkler gourd.rd. To ward off hail and corn-rotting damp spells, the agriculture-based Maya used imitative magic. A gourd-carrying priest (Chac) danced, made thunder noises and waved his lightening knife. Boys dressed as frog attendants (called uos) croaked to coax the rains, while the officiating shaman distributed balche (mead) to ceremony participants, who later all partook of the god's ritual feast. Offerings were placed in the bowl held by the rain god's image.
